How it works
Two sides, one finished window
You tell us the vehicle and the glass; Impex does the checking, the ordering and the fitting. The work comes together at your car.
You
Impex Auto Glass
- 1
Tell us the glass
Call or send the form with the year, make and model, and say which window: driver’s door, rear passenger door, quarter, vent or back. A photo helps.
- 2
Impex checks the part
Impex looks up the exact glass by VIN, so heated, tinted, antenna or laminated versions are not mixed up, and quotes the job.
- 3
Pick the time and place
Home, work, a job site or a fleet yard. If your insurer is paying, have the policy or claim number ready and Impex can deal with the claim.
- 4
The technician fits it
The broken glass is cleared out, the new pane is set, and anything attached to it, such as the defroster grid, is connected and tested.
- 5
Drive away
A side window can be driven straight away. After a back glass, leave the rear defroster off for a day; after a windshield, avoid a car wash and slammed doors for 24 hours.

Not the windshield
Auto glass service in Raleigh for the other windows
Most auto glass pages are written about the windshield, because that is the glass a rock finds on I-40. But a car has more glass than that, and the other panes break in other ways. A door window is smashed in an apartment lot overnight. A back windshield lets go when a ladder shifts in a pickup bed. A small quarter window behind the rear door is cracked by a stone from a mower on the shoulder of a back road. Those jobs need a different part, a different fit and often a faster visit, because the car is open to the rain and to anyone passing.
Raleigh Auto Glass Service is how Impex Auto Glass answers those calls in the south of Raleigh and down toward Angier. It is a service menu for the glass that is not the windshield: door glass replacement in Raleigh, back windshield replacement in Raleigh, quarter glass replacement in Raleigh and fleet auto glass in Raleigh for businesses that run vehicles. Drivers in Angier and Willow Spring get every service, windshield included, on the page for windshield replacement in Angier, NC.
Impex Auto Glass is a North Carolina company. Its shops are in Greensboro and Charlotte, and it describes its service as mobile throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and parts of Georgia. In Raleigh that means the technician comes to the vehicle. This site is not connected with any other business that uses Raleigh Auto Glass in its name; it is Impex’s site for this part of the city.
Before the visit
What Impex asks to quote your glass
- The vehicle’s year, make and model, and the VIN if you have it
- Which window is broken: door, quarter, vent or back
- Whether the glass is tinted, heated or carries an antenna
- Where the vehicle will be for the work
- Your insurer’s name, if you are claiming
With those answers the first call is short and the right part is ordered once.

How to tell
Repair or replace: why side and rear glass is usually replaced
Windshields and the other windows are built differently, and that decides what can be done. A windshield is laminated: two layers of glass with a clear plastic layer between them, so a stone leaves a chip or a crack while the glass stays in one piece. That is why a windshield chip can often be filled with resin. ROLAGS, the repair standard for laminated glass, treats stone breaks up to two inches across and single line cracks up to 14 inches as repairable, and Impex says a repair is possible when the damage is small, shallow and away from the edges.
Most door glass, quarter glass and back windshields are tempered instead. Tempered glass is made to break into small pieces rather than sharp shards, so when it fails it fails all at once and there is nothing left to repair. The answer to a broken door window or a burst back glass is a new pane. Some newer vehicles use laminated glass in the doors as well; the VIN check tells Impex which glass your vehicle was built with, so the replacement matches the original.
| What you see | What it usually means | Where to read more |
|---|---|---|
| Door window in pieces, glass inside the door | A new door glass and a clean-out of the door and cabin | Door glass replacement |
| Rear window shattered or crazed | A new back windshield, defroster reconnected | Back windshield replacement |
| Small fixed pane behind the rear door broken | A new quarter glass for that exact model | Quarter glass replacement |
| Small chip in the windshield, away from the edge | Often a resin repair | Angier windshield page |
| Several company vehicles with glass damage | A fleet visit planned around the vehicles | Fleet auto glass |
The visit
What happens when the technician arrives
Every visit starts with the part. Impex orders glass using VIN-based verification, so the pane that arrives fits your exact vehicle: the right tint band, the right heating grid on a back windshield, the right mounting on a quarter glass. Getting that right before anyone drives out is what keeps the visit to one trip.
- Door glass. The door trim comes off, the broken glass is cleared out of the door and vacuumed from the seats and floor, the new pane is fitted to the window mechanism and run up and down to check it moves and seals. Impex puts a side window at about 30 to 60 minutes, and the car can be driven straight away.
- Back windshield. The old glass and any loose pieces are removed, the new back glass is set, and the defroster connections are made and tested. Impex puts a back glass at about one to two hours and asks you to leave the rear defroster off for 24 hours.
- Quarter and vent glass. These panes do not move. Some are bonded in, some are held by trim, and the method follows the vehicle. The VIN check matters most here, because the same model can use more than one version.
- Windshield. For drivers in Angier and Willow Spring, Impex puts a windshield replacement at about an hour plus a short curing period, with most cars back on the road within two hours, and asks you to avoid washing the car or slamming the doors for 24 hours.
A mobile visit needs a level spot with room to open the doors fully, and dry glass. A garage, carport or covered parking deck is ideal if rain is due. Impex also states that it offers no-contact service options, so the work can be done while you stay inside or at your desk.
Paying for it
How a glass claim usually works in North Carolina
Broken glass is normally a comprehensive claim. The NC Department of Insurance lists ‘Breakage of glass’ and ‘Missiles or falling objects’ among the losses comprehensive coverage pays for, and it pays the cost of repair less any deductible. North Carolina has no law that waives the deductible for glass, so your comprehensive deductible applies unless your policy includes full glass coverage. Some policies do; your agent or your policy documents will say.
You pick who does the work. Under G.S. 58-3-180 a policy covering damage to a motor vehicle must let the claimant select the repair service, and the insurer owes the same amount whichever one you choose. If an insurer recommends a shop, it has to tell you that you are under no obligation to use it. Impex works with all major insurance providers and can handle the claim with your insurer once you give the policy or claim number.
Will a glass claim cost me insurance points?
A comprehensive glass claim is not an at-fault accident, so it does not add Safe Driver Incentive Plan points. The NC Department of Insurance does note that insurers may still look at how often you file claims, including fault-free ones.
If the glass was broken in a break-in, tell your insurer that when you call. Impex’s quotes are meant to be fully inclusive, with no hidden fees, upsells, delivery charges, fuel fees or disposal fees, so the number you are given is the number you compare against your deductible.
The rules
North Carolina rules that touch replacement glass
G.S. 20-135 makes it unlawful to knowingly operate a North Carolina vehicle made on or after January 1, 1936 unless it has safety glass wherever glass is used in doors, windows, windshields, wings or partitions. A piece of plastic taped over a broken door window is a stopgap for the drive home, not a fix.
Tinted replacement glass has to stay within G.S. 20-127: on the side and rear windows, total light transmission of at least 35 percent, with a light-meter reading over 32 percent presumed to comply, and reflectance of 20 percent or less. Multipurpose vehicles such as pickups and minivans are among the exceptions behind the driver. Since December 1, 2025, window tint is no longer checked at the annual safety inspection, but the limits still apply on the road.
The camera question mostly belongs to the windshield. Forward facing cameras behind the windshield run lane departure warning, collision braking and adaptive cruise control, and I-CAR lists removing the windshield as an event that may require aiming the camera. Forward radar usually sits in or behind the front bumper or grille, not in the glass. A door window or back glass does not normally call for calibration, but when a windshield does, Impex performs the calibration on site after the replacement, without a separate dealership appointment.
